No more sleazy site ads!

Well, thanks to the many tag comments that came from sleazes that wanted to either promote trashy girly sites of spread their business spam,I've deleted the tag board altogether. Sorry ladies, but I just couldn't let that garbage be on this site. Aside from that,I'm looking at what other info I can place in here to either encourage your playing or just make you visit for the interesting info.

Where's the girls at?

Yes I know-you thought I just wandered off & forgot all about this, didn't you? Well I didn't- and I'm customizing my beach mandolin,in addition to buying an acoustic/electric off an online auction. I've been working hard on my webstores & auctions,& as we speak am designing a pattern to make my own mandolin straps with my new Janome sewing machine. Mandolin straps are so blasted boring looking! In the meantime,I'm reading my tags but not seeing any networking going on from other female players. Happy Autumn equinox, everybody!

off we go again

Getting ready for that day job of mine....on all week which will make for a decent paycheck (I hope) but can't wait till other plans get a firm footing! After taking care of the morning biz I did get some playing in...listening to the CD that came with the book on my break certainly helps the learning of the songs. Bransle is coming along nicely........still have to get to greensleeves....in the meantime I just got a knitting idea for a poncho for string musicians........need to see how the idea works.

Tinkering does work....

If we do so when we feel "in tune" (no pun intended) meaning I fiddled with the Kentucky yesterday, & finally got the bridge in a seemingly good spot. No more buzzy ringing from the high E string. Plunked around with different songs, and realised I should learn "Greensleeves" as it's a good traditional ren type tune that's good for knocking about with others since nearly everybody knows what its supposed to sound like.  Back to my boring day job today and I'm not even sure if I'm scheduled for today *sigh* So I'll have to find out.

Well I did it!

It's time for action! So I did it- I placed a listing on Craigslist for other string players hoping for a Gothic medieval group to assemble. Hopefully I'll get some responses. I also remembered I had joined musicforte a looong time ago & did nothing with it,so now I will be,a link is on the WJ page for all you lurkers to look at. No one has commented as of yet,and I'm wondering just how shy can all of you be? It's Labor Day & with any luck, the overly noisy party neighbors will shut down tonight a decent time. I'll get to see the mon night game in all its glory, and I get to see the whole game! YIPPEE!

playing with others????

Thank the Gods my day job is over for a few days.......I've been noodling with a piece called "bransle" out of my ren mandolin book. I'm also considering placing an ad in Craiglist for, perhaps,a mandola player,a violinist, for a Gothy looking crypt orchestra. Preferably female and novice players would be ok-considering my level on the mando, not that I'm god awful, but being a novice I hardly feel like I could ask for pro level players. And preferably players 37 and over. Of course that's a little spooky for me as I'm somewhat shy with showing the old playing skills. I need to get a gigbag for my bowlback once I get some decent pay. I've been a hermit musically for far too long. Of course anyone I took into the group would have to be accepting of my being Druidic.

So this is being looked at!

Well surpise surprise....just when I wondered if anyone out there was actually looking at this,I decided to peek at my stats and am pleased to see hits...and a good number of them! So where's posts from other mandochicks?  I can't just ramble on by myself day after day....people will think I'm going dippy & writing to myself.
Wanting to hit the ol strings tonight, and I need to tweak the Kentucky because I'm getting an annoying buzz/ring on my high E string at the bridge. It is the most comfy mando to play while watching tv. It also opens up creative doors...you can play riffs that fit whatever program you're watching....snippets from songs,tv themes, etc. So girls, quick lurking and reply to the blog!

Monday already????

What happened???? The past 48 hours have simply flown by-and now I get to go to my day job & miss my monday night football game (AAAAAUUUGH!)
Last night I finally plunked around on my Kentucky-while watching the 4400. I'm going to start listening to those cds that come with the songbooks I have by Allan Alexander-who plays brilliantly. One of the things that kept me from learning for nearly the first year was not being able to find a book that was a tutoring book in a style I liked. Learning "little brown jug" or "camptown races" was simply not going to happen. Then I stumbled on an Irish mandolin tutor book w/CD and that was a huge help-I'm still working out of that book when I'm not working.

What an idea!

Well with everyone blogging,I figured I'd give it a try to see how many other mandochicks are out there! I am a Gothic mandochick, with a leaning towards Irish,Celtic,Ren,&Medieval music styles. I play an Ibanez bowlback that I can't find any history on,& my "beach mando" is a student Kentucky A model. Playing by oneself gets a little dull, and as I'm a novice,I never know what I'm missing on technique. I've been a guitarist for years, and I naturally transfer my knowledge of that on over. Note:you see the Welsh flag, but I'm in California.
